Flickr Pro Announces Pro Price Changes

Flickr, the world’s most popular photo sharing website, has announced some changes to the pricing structure of their Pro plans. While the vast majority of Flickr users only use the free services, there are many professional photographers who also use the service and require much more than a free account can do. Flickr Pro provides unlimited uploads, unlimited storage, access to your super huge original files, stats on your account and no ads.
While the annual price for Flickr Pro will remain at $24.95 per year there will be a new 3 month plan which users can purchase for $6.95 and the the price for a two year plan is dropping to $44.95. In addition to these changes, Flickr Pro will move to a subscription model which means your plan will automatically renew. Like most subscription services on the web, they will send an email prior to your account being billed. For current Flickr Pro users the auto renewal will not take effect until you have manually renewed your account under this new model.
This is great news for Flickr users because cheaper with more variety is always better. For free users, the majority of people, there are no changes to your accounts. You can read more on these changes over at the Flickr Blog.

Flickr Lists Update Plans for 2012
Last Updated on Friday, 13 January 2012 06:51 Written by Alan Friday, 13 January 2012 06:51
Photo sharing web site Flickr, who are owned by Yahoo, today announced their list of planned updates for the coming year, and several changes came as a bit of surprise. Flickr is by far top photo sharing web site, and also Yahoo’s most well-known property. However, it’s also speculated that owning Flickr, while it’s seems good on the surface, likely loses Yahoo a lot of money.
Flickr mostly talks here about what they termed ““New Year’s cleaning”, which is a group of services that will being going away in 2012 due to either not being core to the Flickr product, not finding a significant user-base, or simply not working with modern web browsers. The list begins with a bit of a surprise – Picnik, the popular photo-editing web app. Flickr plans on implementing their own editing solution, but they are keeping mum about it for now. Photo Session will be turned off on March 20th due to lack of user adoption. Also on March 20th Flickr for Windows 7 tablet computers will be going away, leaving mobile support for Windows Phone as the only Microsoft-based mobile option. Other Flickr apps and plug-ins that will no longer be supported include Flickr Clock, in just a few days, and FlickrAuth on July 31st. Browser support for Internet Explorer 7 and prior and Firefox 3.6 and prior will be ending.
As for what is coming in 2012, they were mostly mum about new products. There is mention of a photo editing solution to replace Picnik, “we are working on making the editing experience even better on the site. We know you care about speed, simplicity and quality and this is exactly what we are working to provide you with. More on this soon, but we can’t wait to show you what we have in store!” The Flickr API is already in use and supports oAuth, and that is why FlickrAuth will be disabled.
There are no specifics given about new products, but Flickr promises that, “we can bring more fun and meaningful Flickr features and experiences to you! Expect to see the first start rolling out in the coming weeks, with many more over the course of 2012.”

Windows 7 User Themes Added to Personlization Gallery
Last Updated on Friday, 4 November 2011 10:48 Written by Alan Saturday, 5 November 2011 06:00
Not long ago Microsoft announced that users could submit their own Windows 7 themes to the Windows 7 Personalization gallery. They have already received more than a thousand submissions from users. There’s still time to get your photos in, though, by visiting the Windows 7 Personalization Gallery Open Call website. If you aren’t familiar with it, the program allows users to submit their photos to be included in Windows 7 themes.
Microsoft has done a great job of releasing Windows 7 themes that coincide with current events like holidays, season, and movie and game releases. They have also released many other themes that display spectacular photography from all over the globe, but this is the first time that they have openly requested work from users. It’s a great opportunity to get your work out there in front of millions of people.
Now Microsoft has announced some of the works they have chosen to add to their Windows 7 Personalization Gallery. Below are pictures and links of those Microsoft has chosen in their first wave.
Aidan Finn of Ireland submitted some beautiful photography of raptors – birds of prey, and one of my favorite subjects for wildlife photography. You can download it from raptors in the Windows 7 Personalization Gallery.
Piotr Furman added some close-up shots of Poland’s natural world in the theme natural world.
Georgina Chitac, of Romania, added the wistful Hopes and Dreams theme.
Microsoft is still accepting photos to be added to their ever-growing Windows 7 Personalization Gallery. You can head over to the Open Call site to learn more and submit your own work.
