Today Microsoft’s Windows Live team made an announcement about a set of new features for Hotmail.  The new feature-set brings Outlook-like capability to Microsoft’s email flagship.

The new features include a brand new right-click menu that you will discover when you right-click a message.  You will now find such options as Reply, Reply All, and Forward.  They also now support keyboard shortcuts that were already present in Outlook.  These include such favorites as Ctrl+N for a new message and Ctrl+Enter to send a message.  In addition, they have integrated shortcuts from both Yahoo! Mail and Google’s Gmail – like # for delete a message and N for a new message.

Microsoft also says that “now, you can go into your Hotmail options and set a default font and personal signature for all your email messages, much like you would in Outlook.”

Finally, according to the announcement, the Windows Live team says:

We’ve also recently fixed some common complaints including improving how the Back button works, and how attachments get saved with your email drafts.

If you happen to accidentally delete a message, it is now possible to recover some lost messages through a new link in the Deleted folder.

And as some of you may have noticed, we’ve started rolling out speed improvements that combine smart programming with the best of HTML5 to make your inbox super fast. We’ll tell you more about this in the coming days.

If you want check out the new goodies, just visit Hotmail and access your account or sign up for a new account.  You can also watch Microsoft’s video below for a walk-through of the features.

go contact sync mod Sync Contacts Between Gmail and Outlook with GO Contact Sync Mod

One of the most common questions we receive involves syncing between Outlook and Gmail.  We have tried various methods for different purposes and now we have found one that is exclusively for contacts.  It’s called GO Contact Sync Mod and it provide a nice automatic sync that users don’t even need to think about.  And, it’s free and open source!

Go Contact Sync Mod is a fork of the original Go Contact Sync, which seems to have gone out of development.  It’s a standalone program that performs automatic true sync between Outlook contacts and Google Mail (Gmail) address book.  The synchronization also supports contact pictures, categories (groups), and notes.  It will start up automatically with Windows and sync automatically as well.

The complete feature list includes:

  • Synchronize your contacts between Microsoft Outlook and Google (Gmail) Contacts.
  • Contact categories and contact photos.
  • Automatic synchronization.
  • Backup Outlook contacts to the cloud.
  • Free.
  • Synchronize Exchange contacts as well as contacts in a PST file.
  • Synchronize Outlook contacts with Windows Phone 7 (WP7), iPhone and Android over the air through Google.
