Today Google announced new updates to the contacts area of Gmail that will make it easier keep track of conversations and give users better Google+ integration.  Google claims a goal of bringing people to the forefront of their services like Gmail and the new features work towards that end.

Now when a user searches for an email address from within Gmail the results will show all of the contact details including profile photos and emails back and forth with that person.  Google has also introduced better circle integration with adds profile pictures when a circle is selected, contact details when you click a profile, and are now supported in search and filters.  Users can find messages from a specific circle by simply searching for “circle:” follwed by the circle name.

For more detailed information on these new features you can head over to the Gmail blog.  The new features do require you to have a Google+ account.

Google Finally Adds Tab Sync to Chrome

Last Updated on Tuesday, 15 May 2012 01:41 Written by Alan Tuesday, 15 May 2012 01:41

If you are anything like me then tabs are near and dear to your heart for many reasons, but mostly because I keep multiple ones open when researching articles.  Of course I also keep some open for information purposes – like Gmail and Google Reader, but those are easy enough to browse to anytime.  There are several apps that allow users to save tabs to re-open later, either on the same PC or another one.  In the past I have highly recommended Tab Cloud, which works with both Firefox and Chrome, and I still do think it’s a great service, but today Google announced that they are building this functionality right into Chrome.

Beginning with today’s new Chrome release, version 19, when a user is signed into Chrome their tabs will automatically be saved and available on any other PC when the user logs back into the browser.  While Chrome should be updated the next time you launch it, the tab sync feature will be rolling out over the next few days.  Signing into the browser also syncs your bookmarks, apps, extensions, history, themes, and other settings.

Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be a way to save various configurations of tabs for different purposes, such as different groups for home and work, which means Tab Cloud still has a place.   You can check out the intro video posted below and read more over at the Google Blog.
