Ironically, from what we have heard, Free Studio will not actually live up to the first part of it’s name soon. Given that possibility and that the newest version, 5.2.1, just came out, this may be the time to grab a copy for yourself. Free Studio is a single bundle of all DVDVideoSoft’s free DVD, video and audio software. To be more precise, there are 44 programs included in the bundle.
With 44 programs included one may worry about a suddenly crowded desktop with all of those new icons. However, fear not, because you will only see a single new icon added. This icon launches the suite, which is divided into four categories – Internet, DVD & Video, MP3 & Audio, CD/ DVD/ BD. From these you can access the individual programs. The programs include the following list.
Free YouTube Download
Free YouTube to MP3 Converter
Free YouTube to iPod and PSP Converter
Free YouTube to iPhone Converter
Free YouTube to DVD Converter
Free YouTube Uploader
Free DVD Video Converter
Free Video to DVD Converter
Free Video to Flash Converter
Free 3GP Video converter

Like many free programs, you have to watch the installation to avoid the browser toolbars that come along for the ride. Beyond that, though, this i a great bargain that may not remain free much longer. There really isn’t much that this app suite can’t do. You can get a copy by visiting DVDVideoSoft.

Not long ago we looked at ways to convert audio file formats online for free and found Media.io. You can read more about it by visiting Convert Music Online for Free with Media.io. Yesterday, Media.io announced the addition of a few new file formats and some additional language support. If you want to convert an audio file to mainstream or obscure files formats then you may want to pay attention to this.
You can view all of the support file formats by visiting Supported file formats and file sizes. New audio file formats include:
- Monkey’s Audio (.ape files)
- Shorten (.shn files)
- TwinVQ (.vqf files)
- TrueAudio (.tta files)
In addition, Media.io has added additional language support.
- Italian translation. I’ve had media.io translated into Italian. I like having localized versions because they make things easier to many people.
- Improved Polish translation. I had a colleague go over the Polish translation and improve it.
Finally, there has been the usual software improvements, meaning bug fixes.
When we tested the web app, it proved to be one of the fastest, simplest, and most capable audio converters we had ever used. It’s free to use and is one of our top recommendations for audio file conversion. It’s certainly the best web app to use as a free audio converter. You can try it out by visiting media.io.

Everyone is always looking for a way to convert a song from one format to another. Most of what we buy comes in either MP3 or AAC format, but some people prefer WMA or OGG, or something else. There are an almost endless number of software programs that you can download to do this – some are paid apps, some are free apps, and some are just spyware disguised as what you want. You may want a desktop app if you have a large number of files that need to be converted, but the vast amount of user probably only have occasional need for such a program.
If you are one of the majority, then you may want to consider a web-app solution. We have been looking at several recently, and we’ll be bringing you our take on each one over the next few weeks.
Today, we are looking at Media.io. It’s a free web app that allows a user to browse, select, and upload a file and choose what format they want it converted to. Supported file formats include WMA, Mp3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, AC3, and many more.
To get started just click the “Browse” and select the file on computer that you want to convert, then click the “Upload” button. Now, click the “Upload” button and wait a few seconds for your file to upload to the Media.io website.
You will then need to choose a format you would like your file converted to. Your choices are MP3, WAV, OGG, and WMA. You can then choose your encoding quality – 256, 192, 128, or 96 KBIT/S. Finally, click the “Convert” button. The conversion, even at a high bit rate, was very fast. My 8 MB sample coverted from MP3 to 192 KBIT/S OGG in only a about 10 seconds. Once it’s complete, you can download your newly formatted file.
Media.io was fast and easy to use. It’s also very simple to understand, so anyone can use it. It gets our recommendation as a web app that is worth, not just trying out, but using when you have that stray audio file that you need to convert to a different format.
