We may not know for sure what the next version of Windows will be called, but we do know that there will be one. We also know there will first be an update to Windows 8. Code named Windows Blue, the update will be coming later this year. For now, the next generation operating system is being called by the most logical name — Windows 9.

Recently a supposed timeline for that release was leaked out online. There is no details about what the OS will include or what it may look like, but firm dates are given regarding what Microsoft is shooting for.

  • 7 January 2014 Windows 9 Beta
  • July 2014 Windows 9 Release Candidate
  • October 2014 Windows 9 RTM
  • November 2014: Windows 9 Release

Needless to say, none of this is confirmed by Microsoft, nor will it be. However, it also fits the timeframe of what the company is shooting for with future Windows releases.
