Perhaps inspired by Google and their efforts to make Chrome into an operating system, Mozilla, who is most famous for their Firefox web browser, has initiated an effort to make their own stand-alone mobile OS. This week Mozilla was at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain to show off what they have come up with.
The new OS, called Boot to Gecko, will probably be debuting later this year, but they were giving demos at MWC. According to NetbookNews, “Mozilla also tells us that all Android users (with unlocked bootloaders) will be able to install the operating system onto their phones.” They also got a quick video demo of the OS running on a Samsung mobile handset.
You can get more information about the new Mozilla OS by reading this post on their blog. You can also check out the video below for a real demo.
