Here we are exactly one week away from the big Microsoft event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where the software giant will release the Windows 8 Consumer Preview to the world, and more new screenshots have leaked out. This time they are showing the new Windows Store that is expected to be one the biggest features of this new operating system.
The new screenshots, which were leaked by the Chinese web site PCBeta, show the new Windows Store populated by a number of new apps such as Bing Maps, Windows Live SkyDrive, and Cut the Rope. The apps are neatly organized into categories such as Xbox Live Games, Camera, and more.
The new store for Windows 8 is where users will now get a large majority of the apps they use, as Microsoft transitions away from including a lot of software with the operating system the way they have done in the past. We saw the beginning of that movement with Windows 7, which requires users to download the Windows Live suite of apps to replace software which used to be built right into every Microsoft OS, such as Messenger, Movie Maker, and others.
Pictured below is the Store’s main screen as it should look when Windows 8 debuts next week. Also below is the page for the SkyDrive app, which shows such things as a description, screenshots, price, and download button. There are several other screenshots over at PCBeta.
