Viewsonic to Release Windows 8 Tablets in Late 2012

There seems to have been some confusion lately over new Windows 8 tablets from Viewsonic. A recent post on Digitimes claimed that “ViewSonic plans to launch Windows 8-based tablet PCs in the Taiwan market in the second quarter of 2012 at the earliest.” A lot of people took issue with this since Windows 8 isn’t expected to be released until the late third quarter at the earliest.
Now we have got some clarification from from the web site Windows 8 Update, who received a message from Viewsonic spokesperson after they posted a terse article about the ludicrousness of such an early release date. The spokesperson clarified that,
“ViewSonic expects Windows 8 in the market the second half of 2012, not the second quarter, and the company is working on a Windows 8 tablet solution to hit the market in the same timeframe.”
This is much more in line with what is known of the Windows 8 build schedule as of now. We still know nothing about the tablet itself, but we do have conformation that one is in the works, and likely scheduled to be released with the new operating system itself. It’s also even more confirmation that Windows 8 is indeed on pace for a fall 2012 release because we have to assume that OEM’s, like Viewsonic, are privy to more Microsoft information than the rest of us have.
