Google announced today they, in conjunction with YouTube, will be hosting a special question and answer interview with U.S. President Barrack Obama on January 30th. The President will be on a Google+ Hangout live from the White House answering questions which will be culled from those posted by everyday Americans to YouTube which, not coincidentally, is also a Google property.
“On Monday, January 30, a few days after delivering his State of the Union address to the nation, President Obama will answer a selection of top-voted questions you’ve submitted in a live-streamed interview. Starting today through January 28, you can visit the White House YouTube channel to submit your video and text questions and vote on your favorites. Your YouTube questions will drive the interview, and several participants with top-voted questions will be selected to join the President in the Google+ Hangout to take part in the conversation live.”
Everybody can post their questions via youtube.com/whitehouse, but obviously this will be a big event so if you want yours answered you will have to likely make it relevant and unique. Google will also accept text questions, although they have stated that they would prefer video format. They also request that your question be kept to around 20 seconds.
This is a unique opportunity, as it’s the first time a sitting, or even former, U.S. president and consented to do such a public meeting. Of course, with all things political, we can expect some slight-of-hand, such as the questions being hand-picked to fit the current climate. Still, this is a chance for everyone to get heard and even if your question isn’t answered you can at least know it was heard by the President or his people.
