SkyDrive API for Windows 8 Docs and Photos Cloud Apps Now Available

Microsoft has taken another major step in preparing for Windows 8 by releasing a new SkyDrive API so that developers can begin preparing their apps (both Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps) for SkyDrive integration. “With the integration into Windows Phone and Windows 8, SkyDrive is a key part of your “device cloud,” letting you work and play easily across your PC and phone.”, said Microsoft’s Dare Obasanjo.
The new Live SDK will simplify some common steps in app development, like creating a sign-in button, requesting and obtaining consent from the user to access their data, and working with the Live Connect REST API. The Microsoft announcement, on their Windows Live Blog, goes into great technical detail, including the code, to help give developers a head start. SkyDrive still offers 25 GB of free storage for all Windows Live account holders and Windows Live is free to sign up for. Not long ago we were expecting Microsoft to announce expanded SkyDrive storage, but their latest Windows Live update failed to include it. With the amount of integration that they are building into Windows 8 and Windows Phone we still wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft expands SkyDrive storage, possibly with the release of Windows 8, or shortly before that.
