Microsoft is Giving Xbox.com a Metro Interface Soon

The popular Microsoft gaming platform, Xbox, is about to give their website a makeover. Like all Microsoft user interface changes these days, it will be going Metro. Since the release of Windows Phone 7, which debuted the Metro UI, Microsoft has been moving their other software in that direction. We have seen it in the Developer Preview of Windows 8, and now we are about to see it on Xbox.com.
Before the end of this year Xbox 360 owners will get a new Dashboard update. Leading up to that update will be an overhaul of Xbox.com. Microsoft announced these changes via their Xbox Blog. They will be replacing the current “My Xbox” section with a new “Social” section.
The new Social section of the website will get such new features as Beacon. Beacon will allow Xbox users to flag games with dates and times when they will be playing them. Their friends can then see this and have the opportunity to jump on to play as well. The Metro interface will also display your most recent activity (games you have played), your friends’ statuses, and Achievements, and a lot more.
Perhaps the coolest new feature will be videos. Users will be able to browse the Zune Marketplace for movies and TV shows to purchase and then play those videos later on their Xbox or Windows Phone.
Microsoft will be rolling this update out “in the coming days”. So, check Xbox.com for the new Social section to appear in place of My Xbox. All of the new functionality we mentioned should be available as soon the change takes place. You can see a preview screenshot of “Social” posted below.
