Using the Outlook 2010 Ignore Button

It has been a long time coming, but Microsoft Outlook finally has a way to automatically get rid of all of those unwanted email messages.  It won’t get rid of ALL of those “Reply All” emails you wish hadn’t been sent to “All”, but it can help rid you of the future bombardment that can be associated with these well-meaning, but misguided, souls who need a lesson in email etiquette.

The first step is recognizing the problem – when Bob sends a “Reply All”, or other type of unwanted message, you can click the “Ignore” button.  That message, and every one associated with it (in the conversation thread), will go to the “Deleted items” folder.   How cool is that?  Your own personal spam filter that you have complete control over!loo

To get started, just fire up Outlook and click on the message in question.  On the “Home” tab you will find an “Ignore” button in the top menu, near the left side.  Click it, and the email, and all others associated with it, will disappear to your trash.

This is a great way to help clean up email quickly, and without flagging your unwitting friends and colleagues as spammers.  Maybe by Office 2012 Microsoft will have AI take care of this for us…
