In less than one week, 5 days to be exact, Mozilla is set to release Firefox 7.  Version 7 of the browser has been available as a beta pretty much since the release of Firefox 6, and of course this signals that we can expect version 8 to hit beta soon.  However, before you get too excited, they are stressing that many add-ons, some of them quite popular, are still not compatible with version 7 of the web browser.

Mozilla Add-ons Developer Relations Lead, Jorge Villalobos, explains that automatic compatibility bumps are run about one week after each new release and that these bumps are tied to the Aurora Channel (where version 8 currently is).  Many add-ons can be automatically upgraded through this process.

According to Mozilla, Firefox 7 beta 6, which is the current beta, can be treated as the final release unless something big happens between now and next week.  You can find versions 7 (beta), and 8 (aurora) over at Firefox Channels.  The current stable release (version 6) can be downloaded from Get Firefox.
