While we are big Windows Media Center fans here, we have a soft spot for XBMC (Xbox Media Center). I personally have used XBMC in the past and can attest to the great interface and usability. With the fate of WMC seemingly hanging in the balance in Windows 8, XBMC may be our next HTPC interface.
Almost every Friday the XBMC team features a user setup that shows how their loyal following are implementing their software and utilizing hardware to create some very cool home theater setups. Some are quite elaborate, and the ones that seem simple can sometimes be even more complicated. All of them server to fuel the imagination about what we can all do in our own homes.
Below you will find a photo gallery of a few of the home theater systems that users have created. Click on each link to visit an in-depth article about the setup, along with lots more photos of the gear.
This home theater is powered by a 5 TB PC running Windows 7 with XBMC. It also features a PS3, a DM 800HD PVR, Kenwood 5.1 receiver, Harmony 900 remote control, a 110 inch screen, and BenQ W600+ 3D projector.
This home theater setup is powered by a 2.5 TB Home Server that sits behind the scenes. The living room features a 42 inch Samsung TV, Logitech Z-5500 speaker system, and a super-fast HTPC.
This last home theater we are featuring is one that require some remodeling, but is certainly worth the time and money. This one involves the demolition and remodeling of basement room. It features Center Stage XD screen fabric, Klipsch Synergy Quintet speakers, Optoma HD20 projector, Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver, and an HTPC running Windows Vista.
These are only three of the many home theaters that XBMC have featured on their site. To follow them just visit the the XBMC website.
