Changes Coming to Google Apps

Recently Google announced that a change would be made to their popular Google Apps, which is used by many small businesses, including this site. If you already use Google Apps then you probably received an email or two alerting you to the changes. If that’s the case then you have nothing to worry about. However, if you don’t yet use Google Apps then you will want to sign up before May 10th.
The change surrounds the amount of users you are allowed to have. They are now limiting Apps free version to 10 users. If you need to sign up more than 10 then you will need to purchase the paid version of Google Apps for Business.
In an email to current Apps users Google stated the following:
“As of May 10, any organization that signs up for a new account will be required to use the paid Google Apps for Business product in order to create more than 10 users. We honor our commitment to all existing customers and will allow you to add more than 10 users to your account for (insert business name) at no additional charge, based on the limit in place when you joined us.”
Kudos to Google for grandfathering in those of us who are already users. For those of you who are not, then now is the time to sign up. You have ten days left to get in under the old terms. Google Apps is well worth taking a look at. It’s incredibly handy for a user base that is spread across various locations.
