Convert Office Documents To PDF With PDF Converter

Not long ago I wrote about an upcoming project that requires me to convert Word documents to PDF files.  Because I I don’t want to shell out the small fortune for Adobe Acrobat I have elected to use a free conversion tool.  Previously I looked at doc2pdf and had good luck with it.  This time I am looking at PDF Converter.

Like doc2pdf, PDF Converter is also an online tool that is free to use. It can convert, not only Word, but about 70 file types to PDF for free – including Excel, Open Office and Lotus.  There is a paid version that will remove some of the restrictions on the free version, such as a 30 minute delay between files you convert, 15 conversions per-month limit, and a few others.  The paid version is $9 per month or $29 per 6 months or you can get a lifetime membership for $99.

Unlike doc2pdf, PDF Converter you can close the page while to conversion happens because the reults will be emailed to you.  You can also choose to have your PDF file attached to the email.  Otherwise you can download the PDF from the site by either clicking the link in the email or waiting the conversion to complete.

The file conversion was fast and the results was a clean PDF file.  If you have only one file to convert every once in a while the PDF converter will work just fine for you.  But, because of the limitations I found that doc2pdf was more useful for my particular case.  Plus, while both offer a paid unlimited version, the fact that doc2pdf’s paid version is a desktop app makes it more useful as well.

So far, doc2pdf is my choice for free, online conversion of Word files to PDF.  There are a couple of more services that I plan to look at in the near future so stay tuned.
