Use Chrome To Turn Websites Into Desktop Apps

Written by Alan Tuesday, 29 March 2011 08:00

If there is a website you find yourself visiting frequently (and we hope it’s this one) and you use Google’s Chrome web browser then you have an even faster way to access that website.  Chrome offers the ability to turn a website into something like a desktop app.  It’s easy to do and you can place your new app in multiple locations.

1. If you don’t have Chrome you can download it from Google Chrome website.  Once it’s downloaded and installed you can continue to step 2.

2. To get started open Chrome and navigate to the website you want to save.

3. Click the wrench icon then choose Tools => Create application shortcuts.

4. In the resulting dialogue box you can choose where you want your new “app” to appear.  Choose your options and then click Create.  The website will now appear on your desktop, Start menu, or wherever you chose.
