New Gmail Navigation Bar Released

While not announced, as far we have been able to find, today Google rolled out a new navigation bar to Gmail users.  You will notice it right away, not only by a color change, but because you may at first be baffled about how to sign out of your account.  The new bar compacts the right-hand side information in drop down lists.

The old bar, which was the same as this shot I just took from Google Reader, is simple and bland.

The new, pictured in the 3 shots below, adds more information and packs it into a pair of drop down menus.

As for the new color, I can only assume it will be new for everyone.  It may be tied to your Gmail theme, in which case yours may be different.

The is the biggest change to a Google navigation bar in some time.  The changes are well done too.  Granted, it may take a little getting used to – my kids could not, initially, figure out how to sign out of their accounts – but once you have seen it in action I think you will like it.  The question now is, when will it come to other properties like iGoogle, Reader, etc.?
