Today’s Twifficiency Fun

Okay, this isn’t specifically Windows related, but we do review a lot of web sites and software that run on Windows here. And, besides, I just could not resist the fun aspect of this.
If you have been on Twitter today then you have noticed that “Twifficiency” was a trending topic. You may also have noticed tweets from people you follow announcing their Twifficency rating. I couldn’t resist checking it out. After all nobody likes to be left out of the latest meme.
If you go to the Twifficiency website you will find a simple interface stating that:
In a nut shell, Twifficiency calculates your twitter efficiency based upon your twitter activity. This includes how many people you follow, how many people follow you, how often you tweet and how many tweets you read.
When you click on “Calculate my twifficiency” you will be directed to Twitter’s website where you must grant permission for the web app to access your Twitter account.
It’s important to understand that by singing in to Twitter granting permission you are NOT sharing your Twitter login with the third-party service. It’s also important to know that it will tweet your score when it’s done calculating – or should I say YOU will tweet your score, whether you want to or not.
Since the name of the app’s creator, James Cunningham, is prominently displayed on the web site, it didn’t take long for the media to track him down. He’s a 17 year old programmer in Scotland. The app uses your Twitter stats to calculate your Twifficiency, including how many people you follow, how many followers you have and how much you tweet.
I’m not convinced that the score really means anything. On the contrary, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t, but it’s the fun internet meme of the day. Oh, by the way, my score was…well, I still don’t know. It’s said “Calculating” for longer than it took me to right this. The site must be overwhelmed. I will post it when/if it ever finishes.
