So what exactly is Intune?  It’s primarily a business platform.  It’s cloud-based management of PC’s both in the office and on the road.  It uses a web-based console to mange PC’s and their security.  Obviously it requires all users to have an internet connection.

You can monitor PC’s, upgrade them and secure them, all through the cloud.  The key resources include:

  • Date Encryption for Mobile PC’s
  • Malicious Software Removal Kit
  • Baseline Security Analyzer
  • Security Risk Management Guide
  • Windows 7 Security Enhancements
  • Windows 7 and Vista Security Forums

Below is a screenshot of the user control panel:

From testing on my home network it seems to work without a hitch.  It gives great control to both users and network admins.  I have not yet heard a firm date for final release, but Beta 2 is very stable.  I know businesses will not run Beta software, so they will be waiting for the gold release, but if you want to play around on your home network or small business, then have at it.
