3 Good Sites for Internet Radio
You have, no doubt, visited the web site of your favorite local radio station and found you could stream them online. But did you know there are many stations out there which exist online only? No DJ, any type of music you could want, and 24-7. Here’s my 3 favorites.
1. Pandora
This one is, far and away, my go-to choice. It’s free for up to 40 hours per month and you get a brief ad every third song or so. A paid account, which has unlimited hours and no ads, is a reasonable $36.00 per year.
You can set up a “radio station” by entering an artist you are interested in. This will give you a mix of songs from that artist and other similar ones. You can refine the playlist by adding other artists to get it tailored to your tastes.
If you really like a particular song you can buy it through Amazon’s MP3 store (my choice) or iTunes. Or, you can bookmark it for later purchase. I’ll warn you now – this will cost you! I rarely use Pandora without ending up buying a song.
2. Last.fm
Similar to Pandora in that it plays artists similar to the one you chose. I thin Pandora does this a little bit better though. However it offers much more in other respects, such as events, charts and videos. Many people prefer these extras to Pandora’s simple music-only approach. Last.fm also allows you to pick and play specific songs in addition to just creating a station that plays a particular style.
3. Live365
This last one is the closest to real radio. You choose one of the many genres and then choose from one of the countless stations that is broadcasting a flavor of that genre. There’s no DJ on most of these stations and you get an occasional brief ad between songs. I love the simplicity of it and the variety of stations available.
