With all of the recent hype surrounding Boxee this seemed a good time to discuss running Boxee from “within” Windows Media Center. For those who don’t know, Boxee is a free media aggregator. From within Boxee you can access many online video services such as ABC, CNN, CBS, Comedy Central, Netflix, MLB, etc. Not to mention content from YouTube, Flickr and Pandora just to name a few.
1. Download Boxee HERE and install it.
2. Next download this .zip file and extract it to you Boxee directory (probably “C:\Program Files\Boxee)
3. Right-click and choose Run as Administrator to launch the file “installBoxee.cmd.”
4. Close all windows and launch Media Center.
5. A link for Boxee should now appear in Picture+Video.
Learn MoreThe Windows.old File
Last Updated on Sunday, 13 March 2011 07:49 Written by Alan Tuesday, 26 January 2010 08:00
You may have noticed, after installing Windows 7, a rather large file eating up hard drive space called “windows.old”. The file was created when you chose “Custom Installation” during the Win 7 setup. You will get this folder only when you choose custom installation without formatting the hard drive and install windows 7 on the same drive where a previous version of window is installed.
What you get with this is the ability to recover the old OS and also recover files such as the Outlook .pst file, for example.
Getting rid of this folder is not as straight forward as usual. You can’t simply choose to delete it like most files. So let’s get rid of it.
1. Click Start =>All Programs => Accessories =>System Tools and Right-Click Run as Administrator.
2. When disk cleanup is done running you will see the Windows.old file listed. Check the box next to it and choose OK.
Learn MoreZune Downtime
Last Updated on Wednesday, 16 March 2011 08:22 Written by Alan Monday, 25 January 2010 08:00
From ZuneInsider.com
The Zune service (Zune Pass, Zune Marketplace, Zune.net streaming and Zune video on Xbox LIVE) will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. The Zune service will be offline for up to 24 hours starting at 10:00 p.m. PST on Monday, January 25.
As with previous service updates, we recommend you download any new music, video rentals or purchases and sync Zune Pass content prior to the downtime. Content that is stored on your PC or Xbox 360 HDD will remain available during the downtime.
Once the Zune service is restored, you will be prompted to update the Zune PC software. Additionally, older Zune device firmware (4, 8, 16, 30, 80, 120 GB) will need to be updated to allow continued connection to the Zune service. Zune HD owners will not have to update the device firmware.
Monday’s update is focused on maintenance of the Zune service. Smart DJ on HD and AVI/XVID video are coming later this Spring.
Thanks for your patience!
