Software Review – LastPass

Password management on a PC is always a tricky proposition. I’ve recently shown Firefox’s great security hole and reviewed Xmarks, which does a decent job. Now let’s look at a real, dedicated password manager – LastPass.
LastPass is not only available cross-platform and cross-browser, but also cross-mobile, with versions for iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows Mobile, and Symbian. It’s free on the PC and requires a small fee for mobile versions. And, of course you can synchronize all of your password across all of these platforms.
Like all password programs, you have one master password and that’s all you really need to remember. It allows you to then log into web sites with one click of the mouse button. You can also save form data with your personal information. All of this saved data in encrypted and recently received the approval of Steve Gibson of the Security Now podcast. Much like Xmarks, when you set up a new PC you can import your data and be up and running in no time. The backup can come from the web or from a USB key.
These are the features I have tested and currently use, but there are still more available, which I won’t cover because I haven’t used them. It is surely one of the best password managers out there right now and one of the best prices as well.
