Windows Media Player Libraries

Do you have media files that don’t show up in Windows Media Player (WMP)?  Perhaps they aren’t stored in one of Windows’ default locations or maybe they are another PC on your network?  The answer almost certainly lies in WMP’s libraries.  You can add or remove folder from the library pretty easily.  So, let’s get started.

1. After opening WMP click Organize.

2. Now hover your mouse over Manage Libraries and you will be presented with a choice between Music, Video, Pictures and Recorded TV.  Let’s choose Pictures for this example.

3. As you can see, Windows has automatically chosen it’s 2 default locations for pictures.  But my pictures happened to be stored on Media Center PC in the living room.  So let’s click Add on the right side.  In the dialogue box you can choose your source in the left column (in this case I scrolled down to Network and clicked my Media Center PC).  On the right side you can choose the folder where the files you want to add are stored (in this case My Pictures).

4. Now, at the bottom, simply click Include Folder.  Now you will see your new folder in the library.  If you want you can right-click this folder and set it as your default.  Once you are done adding and removing folders and setting your default simply click the OK button and your all done.
